Namenda Dosage

Namenda is taken orally, with or without food depending on the patient, with the dose varying according to both their medical condition and their response to the treatment. Initially, Namenda is usually taken once daily at a low dosage, to help minimize any initial side effects, with the dose then subsequently being slowly increased. Once the dose has reached more than five milligrams a day, the patient will then be required to take a dose twice within 24 hours.

Namenda Side effects

Side effects of taking Namenda vary, but most of them are considered fairly mild. Body aches can occur, as can dizziness and headaches. On some occasions, constipation can result from ongoing use.

The most serious side effect is generally a bad allergic reaction that can result in itching and swelling within the facial area, including the mouth and tongue, as well as severe dizziness and some respiratory difficulty. Fortunately, however, this side effect is very rare. Needless to say, any patient who is taking Namenda, or any other treatment for Alzheimer's disease, should remain in ongoing contact with their doctor to ensure that any side effects can be minimized where possible.

What is Namenda?

Before going on Namenda, it is important for patients to inform their doctor if they have an allergy to memantine, as this is an active ingredient of Namenda and will mean that it should not be ingested. The patient should also make their doctor aware if they have a history of kidney problems or urinary tract infections, and if they have also made a recent dietary change, from high protein to vegetarian.
