Clomid Side Effects
Taking Clomid for more than 3 treatment cycles may lead to increased risk of developing an ovarian tumor. Long-term use could increase your risk of Ovarian Cancer. It may also increase your risk of having multiple births (Twins, Triplets).
Common side effects include Hot Flashes, Headache, Breast Pain, Stomach Discomfort or Spotting.
Seek emergency help immediately if you suffer any signs of an allergic reaction including Hives, Trouble Breathing, or Swelling.
Certain women may develop Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS) after first treatment. It can be life threatening. Call your doctor immediately if you experience Stomach Pain, Bloating, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Rapid Weight Gain, or No Urination.
Stop taking Clomid and tell your doctor if you suffer Pelvic Pain, Vision Problems, Sensitivity to Light, or Vaginal Bleeding.
How to Take Clomid
Clomid is taken orally usually once a day for 5 days, starting on or about day 5 of the cycle. Dosage is will likely be 50mg. Therapy should be started on or around the fifth day of the menstrual cycle, but can be started at any time in patients who have not experienced recent uterine bleeding.
Take Clomid exactly as prescribed and directed by your doctor. Take it at the same time everyday. You may have to change doses to ensure the best results. Do not take more or less medication than instructed.
Continue your normal diet unless otherwise instructed to.
Make sure to store Clomid at room temperature and away from moisture, heat, and light.
Precautions for Clomid
If ovulation happens but you do not get pregnant after 3 treatment cycles, your doctor may stop treatment for further evaluation on your infertility. Clomid should not be used for more than 3 treatment cycles in most cases.
Do not use Clomid if you are already are pregnancy. You should also not take it if you have liver disease, abnormal vaginal bleeding, an uncontrolled adrenal gland, thyroid disorder, or an ovarian cyst. Tell your doctor if you have endometriosis or uterine fibroids.
You will likely need to take medical tests to make sure you can safely take Clomid. Your doctor will perform a pelvic examination before each treatment cycle.
Clomid may cause blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery while taking Clomid until you know how it will affect you.
Tell your doctor immediately if you plan to or start breastfeeding. Clomid may slow breast milk production in some women.
