Clopidogrel is an already proven prescription drug that will help you offset the chances of a stroke. However, you don't need a prescription for vitamin C, the latest nutritional ally to join the battle against thrombosis. Researchers have recently found that adding enough food packed with vitamin C to your daily dietary regimen may reduce your odds of suffering a severe attack.

Doctors at the University of Rennes in France who had been treated for hemorrhagic stroke or ruptured blood vessels in their brains to see whether depleted levels of vitamin C were linked to the stroke victims. Using blood tests to determine the vitamin C quantity, the patients were also compared to 65 people who had never suffered a stroke and were considered healthy. The researchers found that 41 percent of the subjects had normal levels of vitamin C, 45 percent had depleted levels and 14 percent were regarded as deficient in the vitamin. Those who had suffered a stroke were on average discovered with diminished amounts of vitamin C, while those who were healthy normally had positive levels.

?Dr. Stéphane Vannier, study author and staff member at Pontchaillou University Hospital in France, compared not having a sufficient intake of vitamin C to other primary health risks that can induce a stroke.

"Our results show that vitamin C deficiency should be considered for this severe type of stroke, as were high blood pressure, drinking alcohol and being overweight in our study," Vannier addressed in a statement. "More research is needed to explore specifically how vitamin C may help to reduce stroke risk. For example, the vitamin may regulate blood pressure."
