The Arthritis Foundation has recognized May as Arthritis Action Month. As part of the observance, the group is leading efforts to increase understanding of arthritis and show people ways they can improve their life. This may include seeking a prescription to buy Celebrex or simply getting more exercise. "Arthritis is serious and it is time we move from simply being aware of the disease's existence to actually doing something about ending the threat," said Dr. Patience White, the Foundation's vice president of public health. "As little as 30 minutes of daily physical activity can help reduce arthritis pain, increase mobility and lead toward a more active, independent life." The group pointed out that arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. Educating people on what they can do to limit their risk of developing joint pain and how to minimize discomfort if they already have arthritis is one of the top goals of the initiative. Recognizing the warning signs and seeking prompt treatment is one of the best ways to achieve favorable treatment outcomes. The group says that joint pain, stiffness and swelling are among the leading signs that a person may soon develop arthritis. |
