Injectable protein may not affect fertility in Clomid users

Endometriosis is a painful uterine disorder that results from angiogenesis, or the creation and changing of blood vessels.

Endometriosis is a painful uterine disorder that results from angiogenesis, or the creation and changing of blood vessels. The disorder can lead to declining fertility rates for females, which many combat with the use of Clomid

However, a new study from Tel Aviv University's Sackler Faculty of Medicine may have pinpointed a treatment for endometriosis, according to the university.

By injecting a physiological anti-angiogentic factor (PEDF), a type of protein, into mice, researchers at the university discovered that there was a reduction in the painful symptoms associated with endometriosis. Speculating that this new treatment might harm fertility, they monitored the ovulation and pregnancy rates of the mice and found no negative side effects.

In fact, they noted an increase in the number of ovulated eggs in the mice with endometriosis, which may indicate improved fertility with use of the protein.

There is currently no treatment for endometriosis, and the scientists who conducted the experiment theorized that the condition is under-diagnosed. Most physicians dismiss the symptoms as severe menstrual pain.

Before the treatment can be made available to humans, further tests are needed. If proven safe, it could provide hope for women experiencing endometriosis and infertility.

Stats from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine show that between 30 and 50 percent of women with endometriosis have issues with fertility. The reasons for the effect on fertility include scarred fallopian tubes, altered egg quality and distorted anatomy of the pelvis.

The source also says that birth control pills are one of the few pharmaceuticals that are known to prevent the painful symptoms of the disorder. However, for women with infertility issues, this is problematic.

The use of Clomid remains one of the best options for improving fertility and it can purchased for a discounted rate at an online pharmacy
