Men with heart failure face high risk of depression

Depression is known to be more common among women than men, but new research suggests that when it comes to heart failure patients, this may not necessarily be the case. Men with the chronic cardiovascular disease may be more likely to require a prescription to buy Paxil.

The findings were presented at the recent Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Scientific Sessions sponsored by the American Heart Association. In the study, the researchers administered tests for depression to more than 3,000 patients undergoing screening for cardiovascular complications.

The results showed that 22 percent of men who were diagnosed with heart failure also had depression. For comparison, only 9 percent of women with the chronic cardiovascular condition had depression. Additionally, the findings showed that men with heart failure had significantly lower quality of life scores, compared to participants with normal heart health.

Findings from the study suggest that more could be done to ensure that men with heart failure do not experience this complication. Providing individuals with a prescription to buy Paxil may benefit some.
