Statins equally as effective in women as men

A prescription to buy Lipitor or any other statin medication may have profound health benefits for both men and women, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

A prescription to buy Lipitor or any other statin medication may have profound health benefits for both men and women, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

For the study, researchers examined findings from 18 previously conducted clinical trials that examined the effects of statin therapy. The results showed that men taking statins were 23 percent less likely to experience a heart attack or stroke, while women were able to reduce their risk by 19 percent.

The researchers said their findings have important implications for the delivery of treatments for high cholesterol. Some evidence has suggested that women may not benefit from statins as much as men. However, the new findings suggest that this is not the case.

"Statin therapy is associated with significant decreases in cardiovascular events and in all-cause mortality in women and men. Statin therapy should be used in appropriate patients without regard to sex," the team concluded in their report.

The findings could help physicians determine when to provide their patients with a prescription to buy Lipitor.
